Lehigh Valley Labor, Industry & Occupational Data: New PSLV Report

The Office of Institutional Planning at Penn State Lehigh Valley recently released a new report that provides an overview of Labor & Industry Data, High Priority Occupations, and Fields of Growth within the Lehigh Valley service area. The report is a compilation of resources and materials from various national, state, and local sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board, and the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

Highlights of Labor & Industry Data, High Priority Occupations, and Projected Occupational Growth Fields for PSLV Service Area, 2010-2020/2040 include:

—Overall employment in the Lehigh Valley will grow 37.7%, adding 131,410 jobs to the local economy, from 2010-2040. The majority of industries in the Lehigh Valley will see gains in employment.

—There are 45 High Priority Occupations (HPOs) projected to have a 5% increase or more in total number from 2010 to 2020.

—23 of the 45 HPOs are within the Health Care field.

—The Health Care and Social Assistance sector is projected to gain the most jobs, followed by Professional and Business Services, and Construction, by 2040.
