National High School Graduation Rates

Education Week has released the 2012 edition of Diplomas Count entitled, “Trailing Behind, Moving Forward: Latino Students in U.S. Schools.”

The report highlights the following:

-The national graduation rate for public schools stands at 73.4%

-PA is 1 of 6 “leaders in graduation rates”, which a 80.85 rate (NJ is also a leader at 76.3%)

-Graduation rates from 2008-2009 rose 1.7%

-“Latino success drives national improvement.” Rates for Latinos increased by 5.5% from 2008-9. Rates for all major racial and ethnic groups have seen increases.

-Asian-Americans and whites are still the highest-performing groups (81% and 79%, respectively) followed by Latinos (63%), African-Americans (59%), and Native Americans (53%).
